Selling Colour!

The whole idea of advertising is to attain attention, attract and ultimately make an impact. A vital factor in creating an influential advertisement is the use of colour.

'Colours are more than a combination of red and blue or yellow and black. They are non-verbal communication. Colours have symbolism and colour meanings that go beyond ink'.

This quote gives the feel that colour plays a huge part in getting a picture across without the use of catchy slogans or shocking pictures. For example, the colour red creates a warming, firey feel asscociated with passion as well as war. Used to good effect as the 'red carpet' gives a sensual and impressive feel to a prestigious event. Having red on someone's body can either mean they have been doing way too much painting but everyone would see it as blood.

Orange
Can mean deceit and distrust.
(GOLD) evokes the feeling of prestige. The meaning of gold is illumination, wisdom, and wealth. Gold often symbolizes high quality.

Yellow
Represents caution, decay, sickness, and jealousy.
Associated with intellect, freshness, and joy.

Green
Associated with ambition, greed, and jealousy.
Traditional colour of peace.

Blue
Represents knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness.
Associated with health, healing, tranquillity, understanding, and softness


White

Light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the colour of perfection.
Black
Power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery.
